GROF® Breathwork is currently being used as a training tool for those interested in better supporting work in non-ordinary states of consciousness. The skill set involves learning how to carefully prepare people for deep non-ordinary state work; how to create ethical, respectful, and safe settings; how to cultivate the naturally therapeutic presence critical for effective sitting or guiding;  and how to provide skillful guidance related to the integrative process that follows a deep experience. All these skills have great relevance in relation to supporting those in psycho-spiritual crisis, the dying process, the recovery from trauma or addiction, or preparing for work in the emerging field of psychedelic psychotherapy. This retreat will offer both a theoretical and practical introduction to the work of Stanislav Grof, MD. It will be highly experiential. Using GROF® Breathwork  as our therapeutic modality,  participants will have two opportunities to experience the breathwork process and two opportunities to hold space for a partner. For those interested in the upcoming GLT certification program, this retreat will be a useful introduction to GROF® Breathwork. The four breathwork sessions will count towards the experiential requirements in the GLT certification program. For those who may have missed the opportunity to experience GROF® Breathwork in other training programs (e.g. CIIS /CPTR or MAPS) this retreat may meet requirements for individualized professional development or experiential learning.

Location Details

Synergia Ranch – Santa Fe, New Mexico

The Place

Synergia Ranch is located in the high desert south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Rustic in nature, and rich in history, the ranch is set on 111 acres dotted with cactus, pinion and juniper trees. The heart of the property includes xeriscape perennial beds, a producing apple orchard, other fruit trees, and farm-to-market vegetable gardens.

Just off the Turquoise Trail (NM highway 14), Synergia Ranch is 45 minutes north of the Albuquerque airport and 30 minutes south the historic Santa Fe Plaza.

The People

Synergia Ranch is home to a small intentional community of cultural creatives in the fields of engineering, ecology, permaculture, fine arts, theater, and the healing arts. Residents include the original inventors, designers, and managers of the Biosphere 2 Project in Oracle, Arizona.

Synergia Ranch is also the home of Synergetic Press, an independent publishing house specializing in ecology, sustainability, consciousness, and anthropology. In early 2022 Synergetic Press released Psyche Unbound: Essays in Honor of Stan Grof. The Grof Legacy Project USA is very pleased to be offering its first public programs of 2022 at Synergia Ranch.

Schedule information.

Our suggested arrival time on Wednesday is between 2:30pm – 4:30pm. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm on arrival day and we will have our first session after dinner from 7pm – 9:30pm.

Departure will be after lunch on Sunday. The workshop will complete by noon and food will be available upon closure. Take-out options will be available for those needing to consider afternoon travel plans.

Airports / Ground Transportation

Guests flying into New Mexico can consider either the Albuquerque Airport (ABQ) or the much smaller Santa Fe Airport (SAF). Synergia Ranch is approximately 50 minutes north of ABQ and 30 minutes southeast of SAF.

Ground transportation from either airport could include car rental (perhaps shared between several participants) or a combination of airport shuttles and UBER.

Please see the Synergia Ranch website for detailed driving directions.

Off-Site Lodging Options

We encourage onsite lodging for reasons of safety and community experience but recognize Synergia lodging is limited. There are several options for off-site lodging including the nearby Rancho Gallina – Santa Fe Inn and Eco-Retreat and various Airbnb hosts. Non-residential guests will be responsible for making their own travel arrangements and bookings.

Internet Access / Cell Reception

Cell phone reception is widely available. Internet connectivity is limited to the commons area around the dining hall – but not in the adobe bedrooms.

Food Service / Dietary Issues

Margaret Augustine, the talented and versatile resident chef will be serving our group. Margaret and her staff can accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions including vegetarian and vegan.

The Synergia dining hall includes a self-service coffee and tea station as well as a full-sized refrigerator for guest use.

comfortable, layered clothing (can send out info about weather closer to event)
waterbottle
eye shades

About Santa Fe

High altitude (7,000 feet above sea level) in the Santa Fe area means air is thinner and it can take individuals about 48 hours to adjust.

Bottle drinking water will be available in several locations.

Please see the Synergia Ranch website for more information and images of the ranch including sleeping spaces, dining hall, shared showerhouse, etc. Our workspace will be the Dolphin Dance Studio – a 1500 square foot room with a wooden floor adjacent to the North Plaza rooms.
