Winter 2024 Update

Greetings from the GROF® Legacy Project team!

New York Times Article Featuring GROF® Breathwork

The GROF® Legacy Project  began the New Year with an exciting  Grof-related feature article in the New York Times! In October 2023 acclaimed New York Times journalist, Ernesto Londono, spent a weekend at the California Institute of Integral Studies (San Francisco)  with trainees enrolled at the Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research (CPTR) certificate program.

The CPTR program is widely recognized as the first university based program of its kind in the nation. Ernesto, who is the author of an upcoming book on psychedelics, was curious about the role of Grof’s holotropic breathwork in the training of future psychedelic psychotherapists. After an initial interview with Diane Haug, Director of the GROF® Legacy Project USA and an instructor with the CPTR program, Ernesto chose to participate in a weekend workshop at CIIS led by Diane and other certified Grof practitioners.

His article, Breathing Their Way Into an Altered State, offers an important message about the power of GROF® Breathwork and the intrinsic intelligence of the body and psyche.

Under the leadership of Dr. Janis Phelps and since the program’s inception in 2016,  the CIIS / CPTR certificate program has offered trainees exposure to the work of Stan Grof, MD. After a necessary Covid-related hiatus, CIIS will be return to making an experience of GROF® Breathwork  mandatory for future cohorts.

The GROF® Legacy Project is grateful for the collaboration with the Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research. We consider Stan’s theoretical and experiential contribution to the field of psychedelics to be foundational in the training of future psychedelic psychotherapists.

Upcoming Events 2024

The GROF® Legacy Project will be offering 4 residential events in 2024 at Synergia Ranch outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2024. While open to the public, these GROF® Breathwork residential offerings are attracting many licensed professionals who are on the track to become psychedelic psychotherapists. Many have already completed certificate programs with other schools or organizations. Many express a need to have more hands on experience with people in expanded states.  Many realize that they need a safe place to do their own inner work.

Fundraising Appeal

Our 4 night / 5 day residential retreats have proven to be extremely well received.  It has been very moving for the staff to witness the impact of this deep personal work as it radiates out in service to families and a greater community. We have had many participants return – and bringing friends, family, and colleagues back with them. Between our 8-week online course in 2021, nine residential retreats in 2022 and 2023, and the large MAPS pre-conference workshop (June 2023), the GROF Legacy Project USA has worked with over 500 people over the last two years.

The reality is that the expenses related to residential work – with adequate and experienced staffing – are high. In fact, our Synergia Ranch events net marginal profit in relation to our overall operating expenses. To date, our work toward building this non-profit has been a labor of love. All of us involved with the GROF® Legacy Project are concerned about the expense of these events and share an intention to make work of this nature more available to a wider and more diverse range of people.

Although we have yet to create a designated ‘scholarship fund’, we have recently created a way for people to help support that vision. Once we have secured $10,000 in a designated fund we will be able to offer many more well deserving people a partial scholarship toward their attendance at Grof Legacy events.

Please note the DONATE button on the home page of our website. If our work has had value for you and/or you are able to support those to come, we would gratefully accept a donation in any amount. Thank you so much for your consideration.
